Trump declared no more selling Bombardier in the United States, saying the Canadian planemaker’s products aren’t good enough and that over half its revenue comes from American buyers, airports and service.
The grievance underneath is reciprocity: he accuses Canada of shutting out U.S. banks and companies, and specifically of blocking Gulfstream from doing business there. Gulfstream is Bombardier’s main rival in business jets.
If they want the American market, he wrote, they must build here.
He closed with a list: buy American, fly American airliners, drink American liquor, sail on Lake America.
Bombardier’s U.S. business is roughly half the company.
