Short breakdown:
- Justice Minister Żurek moved to strip immunity from Tribunal President Bogdan Święczkowski and his deputy so they could be prosecuted.
- Contested government aligned judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska unilaterally declared herself in charge and suspended the lawful leadership for a month
- The Tribunal’s official account immediately called it a coup d’état, said its website had been illegally seized, and stated Korwin-Piotrowska is not a judge
- Riot police were deployed to cordon off the court building in Warsaw and block access
- Polish patriots and PiS supporters gathered outside, chanting “Tusk traitor,” clashing with police, and trying to force entry (three detained)
- Jarosław Kaczyński arrived, accused Tusk of staging a coup and turning Poland into a police state, and demanded the President intervene
- President Karol Nawrocki, already airborne to Senegal, ordered the plane turned around mid-flight and returned to Warsaw
- Nawrocki forced his way into the building past police and stayed inside, declaring a constitutional body had been seized by force.
