Mental health is an essential part of overall well-being, especially for patients recovering from a car accident, workplace injury, railroad injury or chronic pain condition. Trauma, physical injuries, and ongoing discomfort can significantly impact emotional stability, cognitive function, and quality of life. At Allied Neurology & Interventional Pain Practice, Dr. Dariusz Nasiek, MD, provides comprehensive care that addresses both the physical and psychological aspects of recovery.
The connection between physical injury and mental health
After an accident or injury, patients often experience more than just physical pain. Chronic discomfort, reduced mobility, and lifestyle changes can contribute to emotional stress, anxiety, and depression. Addressing mental health is a critical part of the recovery process, helping patients regain confidence, stability, and independence.
Common mental health conditions we address
Our clinic supports patients experiencing a range of mental health challenges related to injury or chronic pain, including:
- Anxiety and stress-related disorders
- Depression linked to chronic pain or trauma
- Post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSD)
- Sleep disturbances and insomnia
- Cognitive difficulties such as trouble focusing or memory issues
Comprehensive evaluation and personalized care
Effective treatment begins with understanding the full impact of injury on both the body and mind. Dr. Nasiek conducts thorough evaluations and works closely with patients to identify symptoms affecting their mental health. This allows for a personalized approach that supports both emotional and physical recovery.
Integrated treatment approach for mental health and pain
Our clinic takes a multidisciplinary approach, combining pain management with supportive therapies to improve overall well-being. Treatment plans may include coordination with mental health professionals, stress management strategies, and therapies designed to improve sleep, mood, and cognitive function.
Support after auto accidents and workplace injuries
Mental health challenges are common after a car accident or workplace injury, particularly when injuries lead to chronic pain or lifestyle changes. Our clinic provides comprehensive care and detailed medical-legal documentation when needed to support personal injury or workers’ compensation claims.
Tailored Solutions: Relief is closer than you think
At our facilities in Northern New Jersey and New York, we take a holistic, precision-based approach to mental health—especially when emotional symptoms overlap with chronic pain or an overactive stress response. Your customized care plan may include:
• Coordination with trusted mental health professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors)
• Medication management for depression, anxiety, and mood stabilization
• Evidence-based therapy coordination (CBT, trauma-focused approaches) tailored to your needs
• Stress reduction techniques (mindfulness, breathing exercises)
• Sleep optimization and nutritional counseling
• Integrated chronic pain and mental health treatment strategies (mind–body care)
• Lifestyle coaching to build resilience and emotional strength
Advanced, precision-based options (when clinically appropriate) may also include:
- Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB): a minimally invasive nerve block that involves injecting medication near a cluster of nerves in the neck (the stellate ganglion) to help calm an overactive “fight-or-flight” response. SGB has been used in conditions including PTSD and certain sympathetically mediated pain syndromes (such as CRPS).
- Ketamine therapy (injections and/or IV infusions): administered in a controlled clinical setting and integrated into a comprehensive plan. Ketamine may provide rapid relief for severe symptoms and may be an option for individuals who haven’t found adequate benefit with conventional approaches.
- Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS): a non-invasive neuromodulation approach used for depression; incorporated through appropriate care coordination when indicated.
Each care plan is designed around your unique symptoms, life circumstances, and recovery goals. A thorough evaluation helps determine which therapies are the best fit for you.
