Dan O’Brien: “From the absence of coverage and questioning of this crisis in Ireland-US relations, that would appear to be the view of Irish media.”

Has the US Treasury responded and are their any indications of its views on the OTB? Is the US Commerce Dept looking at the issue and could it link the matter with wider tariff policy? What are the views of Democrats on the hill re the OTB? Any action by state legislatures and governors? Maybe these questions are not important for Ireland and the two salvos of warnings from US lawmakers in recent weeks mean little? From the absence of coverage and questioning of this crisis in Ireland-US relations, that would appear to be the view of Irish media.

Ireland-US relations are moving towards major crisis. Text of yesterday’s letter from 16 federal lawmakers urging the Trump administration to act against Ireland. Anyone in Ireland who thinks this is not serious or newsworthy doesn’t know a lot about how the big bad world works.
