Germany’s federal health minister Karl Lauterbach claims that as many as 30 percent of asylum seekers entering Germany are “mentally ill” and warned that without therapy, “nobody can deny they represent a threat.” First it was reference by President Trump to asylum seekers coming from prison but then he also talks about “mental institutions”. Comment: Stigma and fear re-enter the mental illness arena and we must be prepared. It is well known that a large percentage of the homeless population suffer from mental illness and this is soon to be on the Agenda in the U.S.

Germany’s federal health minister Karl Lauterbach claims that as many as 30 percent of asylum seekers entering Germany are “mentally ill” and warned that without therapy, “nobody can deny they represent a threat.”

Instead of refusing entry to those deemed dangerous to others, the Social Democrat wants Germany to ramp up its mental health services to treat people more quickly. “It can’t go on like this,” he adds.
