Is there a big difference between 140IQ and 170IQ?
This is very interesting question.
From the perspective of 142, I had a chance to work, spend a lot of time and build close relationships with two of 170+ (+ means exact figures can’t be measured with traditional tests). Let me put you some over many differences that I observed.
- With 142, you are easy going to be the smartest person in the room if you are in the mood, or the dumbest person in the room, again depending on the mood. These with 170 will always be the brightest persons in the room all the time, even if they are bored to death. One sentence in the right moment, and all the rest are disqualified.
- With 142, you can easy solve most of the problems by applying a common logic, get good grades without much of learning, by using inductive / deductive reasoning you are easy able to pass through elementary and high school without even touching the book. The first “cold shower” eventually happens at the first year of University. With 170, that “cold shower” is not going to happen. One of 170 people I know, did 3 disciplines at the same time in order to prove the bet! (Math, Psychology and something third I can’t remember). Eventually he lost a bet due that third, but graduated the Psychology and got a doctorate in Math science. (For a bet! not that he really cares.) Second person finished just an elementary school, and immediately started a business. (He did returned back to education in his 40s, after selling his company for more then 50m), being pushed by his wife, for regularly embarrassing her with lack of education, under an argument he needs to shows as example for their kids 🙂
- With 142, you easy become lazy, while at 170 people seems to be highly disciplined. I was always escaping repetitive tasks, but found fascinating (and feel embarrassed) to have a friend of 170 jump in and do the repetitive task to help me. (He told me he almost got a nervous breakdown as he hates repetitive tasks as much as myself, but that did not prevented him from helping me). At the time, he was Executive of the company and I was reporting to him.
- With 142, you are highly rational, know yourself, have highly developed skills to “think about thinking”. You found your inner peace within age of 30, and not much of Ego is interfering. With 170, they don’t seems to have Ego at all. You can see these persons “made that step” you are still trying to achieve when it comes to self awareness.
- With 142, sometimes you are having trouble to empathy and understand people with average IQ. You lose your patience when they can’t understand your arguments. What’s fascinating, this does not happens within these with 170. They seems to have ability to understand persons at all levels. Sometimes, they are highly manipulative in good way, of being able to understand what average person wants and manipulate them to fulfil their goals in a matter of minutes, without an average person even being able to tell what they did.
- The ethics is a bit different. Sometimes, I feel embarrassed when I see that 170 person is easy to forgive a crucial mistake to both average person or 142. I found it much harder to do that. 170 person is likely to become an “institution” of understanding for all the mess created by both average or above average in the close community.
- Style of living – with 142, the second “cold shower” is business. This is where you actually see there are much more 142+ sharks you need to compete with. When 170 needs money, he is going to wake up, think a brilliant idea, and close the few M deal out of nothing the way for everyone to be happy just by connecting the dots, then get back to sleep.
- 142 will have simple solution for complex problems. 170 will have trivially simplest solutions to solve things that seems impossible to solve at that level. They will use that to earn money when they are out or just for fun. Basically same as 142 but even more complex, with even more simplified solutions.
- Both 142 and 170 usually have best intentions for everyone, and both end up heated by an average persons, who are usually going to exploit their good ethical nature for benefits, not having a guts to tell them in the face, but hate them only out of jealousy. 142 sometimes get frustrated over this, while 170 seems to understand this and not take it personally at all.
- The problem with 142 is high level of criticism about himself and other people or phenomenons. Logically, 142 expect that everyone is willing to improve and ready to hear the truth. This eventually lead into conflicts, as not every average person is able to control their emotions and ego over common reasoning. It looks that 142 is always trying to bring average person to his level of reasoning which is impossible. 170 does not have that problem. If needed, he will manipulate average person to conclude about his mistakes, paying strong attention not to hurt his emotions, applying the “least cost” math-like approach in social interaction.
- 170 Persons seems to always be 5 steps ahead of what 142 can perceive.
In conclusion, 170 person would seem like 142 person constantly being on high dose of cocaine 🙂 (sorry, but can’t describe it better). Somehow, 170 seems to overcome that step in self-awareness that 142 is always close to, but just can’t make it, and an average person does not seems to be interested into. It’s more easy for 170 to deal with average person then one with 142.
142 is one big lazy ass, that will usually end up in lot of troubles by irresponsible nature built around the fact that he can use the IQ to get away from most of problems, sometimes not carrying enough for others (not intentionally), but will eventually end up calling 170 person for an advice how to save his lazy ass. Fascinating, that ends up with “Why don’t you do X”, and X being the simplest possible thing that no-one see as a solution, but perfectly fits into a puzzle to resolve issue leading to everyone being happy. 142 will be like ‘how the f*** I didn’t saw that as a solution”, while to an average person it would look like a solution of a genius. And usually it is.
More IQ = less Ego, more ethics, compassion, understanding, respecting and caring for others.
The thing is, 170 rarely talks about their problems. This is the look to 170 from the perspective of 142, and the Gap is really big. Hopefully someone with 170 here can describe their view of this 🙂
Also, another statistical rule. Higher IQ = less elitism. The “belief” that high IQ people are elitists is derived out of average persons who happens to have enough money to promote as high IQ persons, usually motivated by their complex of not being smart enough.
For high level IQ, ranking persons based on IQ is just absurd as ranking “who has bigger …” in high school 🙂 High level IQ person will always spend more time in criticism of themselves, then acting like the king of the world. More IQ equals more down to earth behavior.
Business:
Another phenomena that I noticed. The higher IQ, the more doubts and critical thinking. 142 IQ could happen to think it sees the whole picture of the problem, but I noticed that 170 IQ still tries to collect inputs even for obvious things from average people. They are using this not only to prove their are right or wrong, but also to quickly model the way of critical thinking. 142 does the same, but this seems more like a pattern for 170. As a result, 170 is able to perfectly fit into regular groups, even play dumb, where 142 is likely to be provoked to show their capabilities. This is especially useful in business. 170 has much better chances of not disclosing what they are capable of till a right time achieving better tactical position. One is for sure, 142 does not get even close to manipulative capabilities of 170 in social interactions. 170 is capable of controlling huge groups, predicting behaviour, fabricating spontaneous looking – yet controlled actions leading towards a goal. I believe this capability is exclusive to 170 range.
However, 140 range is privileged in terms of quality of life. 170 will usually develop huge number of people directly dependent on them, while 142 knows they are always able to quickly think of something to pay the bills and support the family, leading into further lazy habits. 170 have a very little time for themselves.
This should be aggregated with other answers to derive any conclusion, since only two people that I know from this range could not be a representative sample.
Looking forward for opinion of 170 over this 🙂
