Written by me about mental illness in 2003. One can only be disheartened by the neglect in Health Services to provide an adequate system of mental illness provision. CAMHS (Children and Mental Health Services) is an indictment on all progress made in decades through research, psychiatry, addiction services, homeless services, the engagement with the educational components of the internet and social social media. Now nobody wants to be a psychiatrist, there is no mission, no passion. What will happen to the young people who are yet to be diagnosed with mental health that will have its roots in the impact of COVID-19? Shame on the Government, the Stigma, the fact that there are too many charities and not enough services from HSE linked to vocational training and learning coping mechanisms. This article was published (Fergal Bowers approved) on Irishhealth.com in 2003. Minister Butler, the MHC, why have you failed our people who have mental illness? For me I escaped the “net” so I am a survivor willing to assist others.

Abuse of children in care as organised by Tusla is deemed by so many people as “not fit for purpose”. Ireland is a small country but Google has extended our scope way beyond what would have been possible pre Google. This is 2017 but relevant now especially in the trauma years since 2019, COVID-19, Ukraine war and now Artificial Intelligence at a speed beyond interpretation. Ethics is required but in the meantime it can be feared; some say it could have demonic outcomes. Recommend this for inspiration: 2017 Charlie Rose “Childhood Adversity”. Urgent attention is needed to protect children now, standing on the shoulders of giants should be one of the first steps. Significance of “Resilience” which has a genetic source too. Hence major difference in two children in the same family.

Clement Attlee…Checking through old emails I came across this history of Clement Attlee “….The Spirit of ’45, the 2013 documentary film by Ken Loach, based on footage from the election of that year. This focused, rightly, on the creation of the NHS, the provision of social housing and the nationalisation of the mines but barely touched on foreign affairs – failing to mention Ernie Bevin, the foreign secretary, or the $3 billion from America’s Marshall Plan that enabled many of these changes…”.
