Mental illness: This is a most horrific case. But we should be aware of just how vulnerable a person with a mental health history is. They can be imprisoned, hospitalised against their will or if you think of John Carthy, Abbeylara, shot dead in a siege. Mental illness is not getting the funding required, the medical profession are not fighting the fight to help people cope. Too many homeless people have psychiatric needs. Perfectionists: Lowering your standards can improve your mental health. The Washington Post. Personal comment, earliest recollection is being a clumsy child who found endorsement in sorting out papers down to knives and forks in the drawer into order or for that matter anything to be compiled in order. If you know you are perfectionist, you are young, take it from an oldie, it is time to say perfection can create great successes or it may cause infinite harm through anxiety leading into depression. It is so important to understand. I recall an eminent psychiatrist highlighting that some people with bipolar can excel at work. Now I would ask him is this because of their servitude, overwork, control. The kind of person who keeps the office or shop in such good order that they will never get a promotion! My parents were doctors who worked from home so it was easy to excel in housekeeping and secretarial functions at a time when the work was 6 days a week. TBI at the age of 32, executive function of the brain was one of the many problems. Perfection as core instinct antagonised the reality of injury and life became hell. Dr Gabor Mate interview. Stress, Trauma. Dr Gabor Mate is a doctor but his belief is that doctors need more education. A doctor is most empathetic at commencement of studies; they age quicker too. Stress needs to be understood. Children up to the age of three who are exposed to stressful parental situations and environments. “Relationship between mental stress and physical outcomes”. Recommend re PTSD; Addiction; Trauma. He talks about impact on child mental health and the increase in child suicides in the US. Children are now reared in exceptionally fused stressful situations.
