Kibbutz was structured to train immigrant Jews to tending to the land: plant it, harvest it… without the need of the real Palestinian peasants in rural regions.

The last chapter of “Place de l’ Etoile“, the first published book of Patrick Modiano at age 21 (current Nobel Laureate of literature) narrates something to that effect:
